UKCP registered Psychotherapist
BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and Supervisor.

I am currently (2012) employed part-time as the Lead Psychological Therapist working within IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) in Cornwall. I also see up to four private clients each week.

My interest in Counselling began in 1989 whilst working for a Voluntary Agency in Halifax. I realised that if I was to ‘listen’ skilfully I needed some training. Having gained a certificate in Counselling Skills I was encouraged by my tutors to continue training and gained a Diploma in Counselling and Groupwork in 1993.

By this time I was really enjoying the training and wanted to go further. By 1998 I had completed and gained a Masters degree qualification in Gestalt Psychotherapy at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute. accredited by Derby University. During this time I had worked for four years as a primary care Counsellor within a G.P. Surgery, run a private practice, and moved into working as a Counsellor for Adults with Learning Difficulties within the NHS.

Once within adult mental health I gained successful posts leading to my employment in February 2000 as the Senior Psychotherapist in the Department of Psychology and Counselling for South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust where I remained until relocating to Cornwall in May 2004.

As part of my ongoing professional development I have gained a Diploma in Clinical Supervision (please see my supervision page), and a certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I also regularly attend short courses, seminars and conferences.

As a therapist with experience and training for working with most issues, I have a particular interest and additional training in working with Childhood Sexual Abuse Survivors, Adult Male or Female Victims of Rape or Sexual Assault. The effects of Suicide or Traumatic Death. Supporting individuals with a life-threatening illness and their carers. Health Anxiety (formerly known as Hypochondriases) and Work Related Stress.

I work within an Integrative, Humanistic Framework drawing on differing models and ways of working to suit the client or supervisee. My core training in Counselling is Integrative, and my core psychotherapy training is Gestalt. I can offer either short-term time limited counselling for a specific issue, or open ended therapy for personal development work or for long-standing issues.

I can offer limited concessionary rates for people on very low incomes, please discuss your requirements with me.
