CLINICAL SUPERVISION
SUE CANON
I have supervised both trainee and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists for the past eleven years. I find this role immensely enjoyable and like to think I bring a creative way of working into supervision. My experience is both with individuals from a wide range of counselling and psychotherapy backgrounds and also with groups. I have run supervision groups comprising either three or four supervisees for the past eight years. My diploma in supervision was awarded in 2000. I gained this from training with Andy Fookes, director at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute and travelled to Reading regularly as I knew Andy as a trainer and respected his teaching style and his support, so decided the journey from Halifax was worth it.
I work integratively as a supervisor, having supervised Gestalt trainees and qualified therapists. I was an accepted supervisor for trainees on the Person Centred Training at Burnley College, the Relational Counselling Diploma at Park Lane College Leeds and Diploma Students training at Bradford and Ilkley College. I have remained the supervisor for two students who have completed Integrative Psychotherapy training at Scarborough Psychotherapy Training Institute and are awaiting their UKCP recognition.
My post as Senior Psychotherapist for South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust included supervising nine counsellors working within Primary Care. I was instrumental in setting up the standards for counselling and for supervision when this new service was started in Calderdale in May 2000.
I am happy to take enquiries for a possible new supervision group if prospective supervisees would like to work together. I have some flexibility on where the group could be seen and may be willing to travel within reasonable distances if this suits the group better than them travelling to Helston.
Please speak with me or email if you wish to discuss supervision further.
